Sailing the high seas

I purchased the Edward Thatch build plan and built the ship during the pandemic quarantine for my two boys. The plans are very well thought through and laid out in a logical order. The tricky part is thinking through the foundations for the ship. My lawn had a gentle two directional slope so I decide to place the ship on 8” diameter concrete filled sono-tube forms that were dug approximately 16”. I then used a center cast in anchor bolt with an adjustable receiving plate for the 4x4 pedestals on each footing. The pedestals were cut to the correct height so that the ship was constructed level relative to the backyard slope. It was a fun project to build and is a great opportunity to bond with your kids and teach them a little basic craftsmanship and tool knowledge. I highly recommend Paul’s build plans. Just remember to take your time and think through your steps carefully before each stage of construction. I temporarily setup my garage with my saw and saw horses to organize all the cuts and board staging. An excellent project and proved to be highly therapeutic during the stressful times of the pandemic!

Build was a breeze

I had never in my life tackled a project of this scale, and these plans made it extremely easy to manage every step of the way. My wife and neighbors now think I'm a master carpenter, and my kids are now enjoying the outdoors instead of the television. Thanks to the intuitive, detailed, and comprehensive plans, this build was a breeze!
