Frankly in today's culture, if you have a back yard and at least one kid, you absolutely must have a mini-play-set behind your house or else you're simply a bad person.  How dare you not give your child something fun to play on and get their state required exercise!

Of course like most people, you really don't feel like dumping over a grand on something they'll just outgrow in a few years.  Never fear, Paul's free swing-set plan is here.  Sure it'll take you a few hours of your time to build, but it'll cost you 1/4 the price you'd pay to buy the same thing fully intact.  So what are you still waiting for?  Choose between our Standard Size plan, or our Deluxe Size that's designed for two 7' deck height slides.

Sturdy + Straightforward

This is an amazing plan, even more amazing that it is free. It doesn't require any special skills because everything is explained in the plan. The structure is amazingly strong - it's basically like building a mini deck - and could easily hold several adults. I was able to shorten the span to 7 feet because my backyard is quite narrow, and it can still safely hold two swings. Although the playset looks simple, it actually has a lot going on: three ladders, a slide, two swings and monkey bars. I also added a tire swing to the lower deck, and purchased a playset steering wheel and telescope. My daughter plays on it from morning until evening and doesn't get bored. Unlike an overly prescriptive prefab set, this design seems to encourage open ended play and various simple combinations of moving through the equipment. Kids can definitely tell the difference between a cheap prefab set and something like this that is strong, made with good materials, and will hold up to rough play.

I learned a lot from making this plan, thanks to the clear instructions and the accompanying "How to Frame" document Paul provides.
