My kid's and their friends love the pirate ship. The plans are great and very detailed. I did change them to make the ship bigger to accommodate the my ultimate goal, to have a zipline from the crow's nest. We have spent countless hours with friends and family on the ship and playing around the pond. We've even spent the night on it. Thanks Paul's Playhouse for a fun ship design.
My boys and I started building the Davy Jones last spring. It's about 95% complete now, still lacking the roof and slide. I get a ton of compliments from other parents. Any time the kids have friends over they're all over the thing. The plans were really good. I've built a lot of stuff from online plans and these are top quality. Takes a lot of the thinking/planning out of the project and lets it move a lot faster.
We actually were building a platform for our zip line and I thought it would be so much cooler if it were a pirate ship instead of a plain old platform so I started to search for some ideas online. We came across Paul's playhouse plans and because the plan was very detailed it influenced my decision to go forward with this one in particularly. Although we didn't start exactly as the plans showed because we were a few days in when we changed our overall plan to do this ship vs the boring platform but we certainly ended up with a similar result. And hindsight is 20/20 because at times I wished we had just started over from scratch because the details in the plans the attention to every perfect detail was layed out in these instructions but my footing that I was needing to attach it to wasn't exactly what the instructions were. But finally after a few modifications and many extra cuts, we finally got past the first floor and could follow the plans meticulously. But did we? Well for the most part yes, but with some twists. We decided a bigger mast was necessary for our ship and the skinny path on the deck was not enough to make dad feel real secure about him being up there 6 feet so we enlarged it by 2 feet all around and made it a bit wider, safer and easier to get around up there. My son is very happy with his ship and we have some plans to add cannons later this spring. Thanks for making this dad look like he might do it for a living. It turned out even better than expected.
Great plans, easy to follow. Hardware list was super helpful. I deviated from the plans significantly for the upper deck due to neighbor's concerns with the size of the ship. Altered the upper deck to make it more see-through and not as tall. Decked the entire upper deck to provide more playroom.
I purchased these plans a year ago and built it for my son's 4th birthday party. The plans were easy to follow, and detailed. There were a few cuts that had to be made that were a little difficult to figure out but I was able to manage and figure it out. My son's birthday party was a hit and all the kids absolutely loved it, my son still loves it and wants to play on it all the time. Any body that comes over he has to show them his pirate ship and we look forward to many years of enjoyment with it. I plan to add more things to it for more enjoyment.
