If you were to go back in time 250 years ago and visit western Europe, it wouldn't be a uncommon site to see a decorative, octagonal windmill whirl in the wind.  Known as a smock style windmill, these slopping contraptions helped process grain and pump water before the advent of steam power in the mid 19th century.

However, they still to this day look really neat and it was really a no-brainer to turn one into a kid's sized playhouse anyone with the basic tools can build themselves.  Complete with a full, 2nd floor wrap around porch, fire pole and room for a slide, it even features a main sail and fantail that can spin.  The 12x12 or 16x16 Smock Windmill playhouse plan makes for an excellent, novel project you and your child will love to build!  Don't forget to also check out the full sized lighthouse plan too!
